Q1: Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to write this book?
I’m Spicee Gray, single mother of three, a domestic violence survivor, motivational speaker/activist, and the author of The Unspoken Heart. I came to write the book when a man that was placed in my path persisted me to publish my writing. Before publishing my boo, I solely used my poetry as a place to escape from pain, fear, and emotional wounds.
Q2: How did you come up with the title for the book?
The title of my book was left in the hands of my Facebook friends, but one woman whom I helped with escaping from abuse said “it should be The Unspoken Heart, because all you write is from your heart.” I loved it!
Q3: What inspired you to write the book?
My Facebook friends, my mother, associates, coworkers, and my children stated I had a gift in helping others through my own experiences in writing. I wanted to share that gift with battered and abused women (as well as men).
Q4: Just as your book inspires authors, what authors have inspired you to write?
My inspirational authors are Mayou Angelo, Carl Weber, and Ashley & JaQuavis.
Q5: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years, I look to be retired from the US Post Office and in becoming a full-time writer. Also, I’ll still be fighting to assist domestic violence victims.
Q6: What are you working on now? What is your next project?
I’m currently working on my memoir. It will share all that I have seen through my own generational chain, how I became a domestic violence survivor, and why I write in the form of melodic style within true existence.
Q7: Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
From my book I learned that God has positioned and purposed me through my wounds to gain strength, learn to love myself, and that no weapon formed against me shall prosper.
Q8: Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Yes, I would like to say if it weren’t for you being my support system through it all and having faith in me, I would had never became the author I am today. You have helped me form the passion I have as a writer, motivational speaker, and activist. Thank you from the depths of my heart!
Q9: What are the top 4 takeaways you want people to experience from reading your book?
I want people to experience….
Strength, healing, self control, and most importantly your worth.
